If the Bitcoin price would just move to $1M already we can still make it happen before the 2030s 👌

Jacob Silverman @SilvermanJacob

I can't emphasize enough how much bitcoin fixes this. https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1637801949432012801

Even at just the current price level Bitcoin is already responsible for around 1% of all electricity consumption in the US and that’s only accounting for the share of miners that is actually operating in the US.

Folks seem to be forgetting that if Bitcoin heads to $1M the power demand of the network will also start to rival that of the entire US. It would be raining Bitcoin bans in no time, hence the BTC price is soft capped well below the $1M price point. https://twitter.com/goingparabolic/status/1636918342266109952

Balaji is locked in on a $2M bet that #Bitcoin will be north of $1M in 90 days. 🤯🤯🤯

It’s only typical that a Bitcoiner policy advisor has neither heard of, or understood, a key metric relevant to policy-makers 🤷‍♂️

I also put a note on this in my research article “revisiting Bitcoin’s carbon footprint” published in Joule one year ago. https://www.cell.com/joule/pdf/S2542-4351%2822%2900086-1.pdf

If you’d properly account for the real impact on a grid, Bitcoin’s carbon footprint is likely much larger than we think it is.
